Dr. Anderson, founder of Safe Families for Children, came to us looking for help with both writing and publishing a book. He wanted to tell the story of how he built Safe Families for Children, a non-profit movement that mobilizes volunteers to come alongside families to care for their children and help parents thrive.
Dr. Anderson provided us with a lot of content he’d already written in previous attempts to capture the Safe Families story. He’d been trying for years to get his book completed. I interviewed him numerous times, and also interviewed many Safe Families staff and volunteers. Since Dr. Anderson and his wife Karen have hosted more than 80 children in their home, she was an integral part of the process, adding stories, facts, and insight to the manuscript. We spent more than a year working on the book.
Once completed, our team did a thorough copy edit, then created a great cover using the colors and fonts in Safe Families branding kit. The resulting book, Unleashing Radical Hospitality, “fits” with all of their marketing materials and their website. We stepped Karen and Dave through the self-publishing process, and they also chose our digital printing option to get extra copies of the book. Copies of the book were ready in time for the recent Safe Families’ 20th anniversary event. It’s also available in both paperback and ebook on amazon, and they are currently having an audiobook produced.
