By Vicki Mullins Eaton
Vicki Eaton felt led to write, and she was passionate about her topic. As a psychotherapist, she had a lot of expertise and experience. But she was a writing and publishing rookie. She didn’t know how take get her writing from a collection of chapters, each in a different Word file on her computer, to a cohesive, focused book. She needed coaching and then publishing guidance, and I was delighted to help her.
“Eventually I realized my writing was shaping into something that could help women who believed ‘lies’ about themselves. But it sat on my computer for several years because I had no clue how to turn it into a finished product and publish it.”
We started with coaching. Each month, Vicki would send me a chapter to review and give her feedback. She got customized teaching that included everything from how to eliminate passive voice to how to use Google docs. As she was writing and revising, she also taught the material in a class at her church, which provided invaluable feedback.
Once the chapters were all completed and revised, I pulled them together in a manuscript, proofread it one more time, then guided Vicki through the self-publishing process. I created a story board to help her with cover design. (You can read more about the whole process here.) We partnered with our designer to create a beautiful cover. I then did interior page layout and helped Vicki procure ISBNs.
I guided her through the process of self-publishing on Kindle Direct Publishing.
Her book, Healed and Transformed: A Therapist Explores What Happened When Women Met Jesus, is helping women dismantle the lies that keep them from thriving and guiding them closer to Jesus.
“Without Keri’s knowledge, experience, edits, and all her suggestions, I doubt if my book would have ever been published,” Vicki said. “I’m grateful for her valuable input about how to make the book a better read and then how to publish it on Amazon. Thank you, Keri!”
